Susan Stewart has lived and worked in Thailand, the UAE, South Africa, Belgium, Oman and Sweden, and has raised two bilingual children. Susan has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Linguistics & French from the University of South Africa, a PGCE from the University of Sunderland and a Master's in Linguistics & Communications from Birkbeck College, University of London. Working in international schools in Europe, Asia and Middle East, Susan has had leadership roles where she developed language policy and curriculum cohesion between the various language divisions. Susan speaks, to varying degrees, English, French, German, Afrikaans, Swedish and Arabic and BSL. Susan is active in the local community in promoting the use of home languages, delivering regular parent workshops around the challenges of raising bilingual children, as well as collaborating with community language schools in and around London. Susan has a particular interest in the area of language policy as a driving force in promoting multilingualism within families, schools and on a national level. Susan is the Chair of the ECIS MLIE (Multilingual Learning in International Education) Special Interest Group.
